Gilgit-Baltistan Rural Support Program (GPRSP) becoming a victim of bureaucratic stubbornness

Gilgit-Baltitstan Rural Support Program has stopped recieving funds

Gilgit (Correspondent): Due to the non-cooperation of the Gilgit-Baltistan government and the provincial administration, Gilgit-Baltistan Rural Support Program (GBRSP) has stopped receiving funds.

The Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary also have become helpless in front of the stubbornness of a senior bureaucrat. Fifty percent of the regular budget for the financial year 2022-23 could not be released to the institution even after seven months.

According to sources, Gilgit-Baltistan Rural Support Program (GBRSP) had to receive Rs. 0.11 billion for the fiscal year 2022-23 as the regular budget. However, with the lapse of seven months, only fifty percent of the amount has been released by the finance department.

According to the sources, it would be impossible to pay the salaries of GBRSP employees if the funds are not released for the next two months.

The sources say a rift was created between a senior bureaucrat and the institution last year, after which the senior bureaucrat became an obstacle in the provision of funds to the institution.

According to sources, owing to the high influence of the bureaucrat, there is no interest shown by both the chief minister and chief secretary in addressing the financial issues of GPRSP. .

GPRSP is has been playing an active role in the development of Gilgit-Baltistan. It has been providing facilities for the development of rural areas as well as urban areas. Its role in the promotion of tourism and information technology is considered laudable.
