Gilgit: Grand Health Alliance Gilgit-Baltistan (GHA-GB) threatened to protest across the region if risk allowance and other basic facilities are not provided to doctors and paramedics as part of their revised salaries in the new budget.
Addressing a press conference, the GHA-GB officials Dr. Wajahat Ali, Dr. Rehmatullah, Dr. Asif, and Mushtaq Hussain said doctors and paramedics in Gilgit-Baltistan get meager salaries. Unlike doctors in the rest of Pakistan, they are deprived of risk allowance and other basic perks and privileges.
They said doctors and paramedics are always overburdened because of a shortage of staff. Moreover, they are deprived of their their legal right to different allowances. Nevertheless, the Health department employees are rendering their services with utmost professional honesty.
They demanded the government to consider their demands empathetically and provide risk allowance and other perks and privileges as part of their revised salaries.
They further said they would announce their future course of action in light of the response from the government. They would not hesitate to go on strike irrespective of what impact this may have on patients.
