Gilgit (Ibex report): Deputy commissioner/magistrate Gilgit chaired a meeting at his office in connection with drug control and administration.
The participants of the meeting included chief inspector of drug, district administrative officer, inspector drugs and other district officers.
Briefing the magistrate, the senior drug inspector Gilgit said medical stores and drug distributers get their license under drug rules 1976 and G-B drug rules 2014.
He said, his department checks various samples of government supplied to private medical stores on monthly basis. Drugs, Water and Food Testing Laboratory Gilgit-Baltistan tests these medicines.
The senior drug inspector informed the magistrate about the control procedures of narcotics and psychotropic drugs. The distributors dealing in narcotic medicines have got their licenses through proper channel. All medical stores dealing in narcotics and psychotropic drugs maintain a manual narcotics register.
All the medical stores are required to update the procurement data only on the basis of the prescription of the doctors.
During his briefing, he said the post of drug inspector was established in 1986. Currently there are 5 drug inspectors against 372 medical stores and 67 veterinary medical stores in Gilgit district.
Deputy Commissioner Gilgit, while issuing instructions to the Chief Inspector of Drugs, said that strict legal action should be taken against the medical stores violating the drug laws and ensure checking of all medical stores across the district once a week.
He also directed the Chief Inspector Drugs to make and submit a detailed report taking strict legal action against the violators.
