Gilgit (PR): Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Haji Gulbar Khan has said Gilgit-Baltistan Special Economic Zone Project holds great significance and efforts would be made to engage the federal government for its timely completion.
The Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan said this during a briefing given by the Department of Minerals, Commerce, Labor, and Industries Gilgit-Baltistan.
He said directives have already been issued to the relevant departments to expedite work on Gilgit-Baltistan Special Economic Zone project to ensure the provision of support and resources to industrialists and creating job opportunities for people.
He further said the Board of Investment would be made functional to open new avenues for investment in G-B by providing one window operation facility for the local and international investors. Special attention will be given to technical education to create employment opportunities in the province, said CM G-B.
The Chief Minister issued directives for all departments to enforce child labor laws and implement special measures to ensure the welfare of children.
He also directed the Secretary Industries G-B to focus on solving the problems of various chambers of commerce in the region.
He said measures will be taken to further develop mineral sector which serves as the main source of revenue in the G-B. In keeping with the department’s recommendations, the ban on new leases will be lifted soon, which will open new investment opportunities in the mining sector, added the CM G-B.
The Chief Minister directed deputy commissioners of all districts to convene monthly supervisory committee meetings to address issues related to mineral leases in timely manner. Additionally, the Chief Minister directed the Provincial Secretary Minerals to review inactive leases in accordance with the law.
Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Minerals Maulana Sarwar Shah, Special Assistant on Commerce and Youth Affairs Zabiullah were also present in the meeting.
