Mardan (PR): Awami Workers Party has issued a statement on Sunday after two days meeting of its federal committee attended by party leaders from across Pakistan.
According to the statement, the power tussle in the ruling class coupled with the IMF policies had made life miserable for the the working class. The state of affairs has also exposed the decadence of the neo-liberal economic system and the ruling elite’s failure to deliver, said the statement.
The statement says the rulers are shifting the debt burden on the people by surrendering to the pressure of the IMF for $1.3 billion. However, big businesses and real estate mafia continue to enjoy subsidies, tax relief and misuse of taxpayers’ money.
According to the statement, AWP supports any move to strengthen trade, economic and diplomatic ties between neighboring countries and resolution of conflicts through dialogue. The meeting called upon the government to reduce non-productive expenditure and ban imports of luxury goods to get the country out of the current economic and political crises, said the statement.
The statement opposes Gilgit-Baltistan Land Reforms Bill and AJK Tourism Bill as means to exploit local resources. It condemned the demolition of goths in Karachi, slums in Islamabad and taking over agricultural land in the peripheries of Lahore under Ravi Development Authority and giving them to private housing societies.
According to the statement, AWP reaffirms it determination to continue fighting oppression, exploitation, forced marriages and intimidation of religious minorities in the country.
The statement urges all the democratic, secular, progressive, nationalist, and working class, youth, students, to get united on the minimum agenda of radical change and for creating a democratic, humane, and just society.
