Gilgit (Correspondent): The Ambassador of European Union to Pakistan, Dr. Riina Kionka inaugurated the Accelerate Prosperity’s co-workers Space at the Professional Development Center North (PDCN) in Konodas Gilgit.
Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani, Provincial Secretary Information Zameer Abbas, Secretary Information Technology Muhammad Azam Khan, senior management of Aga Khan Development Network and trained students of Accelerate Prosperity participated in the inaugural ceremony.
Dr. Riina Kionka appreciated Accelerate Prosperity for its role in providing guidance in starting personal businesses and facilitating the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) in getting loans on easy terms.
She emphasized removing obstacles in personal business in G-B especially by the youth and women. In order to do this, the government and the private sector will have to formulate a strategy with mutual cooperation and the European Union will also provide full support in this regard, said Riina Kionka.
The EU ambassador aslo appreciated the provincial government for its recent steps in the field of modern education and information technology. She called G-B is model for the rest of the province in terms of education. .
While addressing the inaugural ceremony, Chief Secretary G-B Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani said G-B government has spent more than Rs. 1 billion for last one year in quality education, information technology and Smart schools across Gilgit-Baltistan.
He further said efforts are also underway for the establishment of blended learning system, STEM education, IT parks, boot camps, robotic labs including. Efforts are also underway to establish campuses of country’s renowned educational institutions including NAST, NCA and LUMS in Gilgit-Baltistan, further added the chief secretary.
He said the provincial government is taking steps to promote entrepreneurship and establish incubation centers so that Gilgit-Baltistan could be set on the path of economic self-sufficiency with skilled manpower.
While speaking on the occasion, the CEO Agha Khan Foundation Akhtar Iqbal reiterated his commitment to take joint steps with the provincial government to provide business guidance and equip the students of Gilgit-Baltistan with other skills.
