Action Committee G-B vows to resume protest movement against new wheat prices

Gilgit (PR): Awami Action Committee Gilgit-Baltistan has rejected the recent price hike in subsidized wheat in an emergency meeting in Gilgit city.

Held under the leadership of president Fida Hussain, the meeting was attended by Comrade Baba Jan, Vice Chairman Fida Aisar, Central Spokesperson Zaheer Qasmi, Senior Leader Sher Nader Shahi and others.

The meeting rejected the claims made by the senior minister Raja Zakaria about taking action committee into confidence and called it an act of hoodwinking the people by false statements.

The participants of the meetings said that the action committee has not only rejected the increase in the price of wheat, it also has started protest movement against it.

They said that the action committee has a clear stand that the increase in wheat prices is to benefit a few people and open more doors for corruption.

They observed that the wheat price was increased in the past too by creating an artificial shortage of wheat. However, the price hike neither made wheat available to the people in abundance, nor did the quality of flour improve.

Even today, bran flour is being fed to the people. Subsidized wheat is being smuggled to Afghanistan. If corruption is eliminated and this wheat mafia is curbed, there is no shortage of wheat and there is no need to increase the price.

The leaders of the committee further said they are once again on roads against wheat mafia and with public support they will reverse the increase in wheat prices.
