Karachi (Zia ur Rahman):The talk was arranged by the students of environmental education as part of their course in cooperation with the Research and Policy department at Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED) Karimabad on Wednesday.
Z.A Bhutto Junior talked about ‘A case of Bulhan Nameh – Dolphin Diaries’, a long-term research-based project that looks at selection of sites inhabited by Indus dolphins on the River Indus between Sukkur and Rohri in Sindh, Pakistan.
On a multimedia presentation, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto briefed how through print making and textile (the diaries he has written with) tell the story of Indus and its dolphins.
He shed light on his artwork (cyanotypes, analog photograph and archive) which is paired with traditional Sindhi embroidery rooted within its cultural landscape, a sense of loss and nostalgia.
According to Z.A Bhutto Junior, there remained only few hundred Dolphins some years back. However, the project ‘A case of Bulhan Nameh – Dolphin Diaries’ has helped increase their number to 2000 in a period of few years.
It is pertinent to note that Assistant professor at AKU-IED Dr. Fozia and Zulfiqar Ali Junior are two among many activists who have been raising voice over the deteriorating health of Noor Jehan, a critically ailing 17-year-old elephant in Karachi Zoo.
While taking on status of animal rights and their condition in Karachi Zoo, Z.A Bhutto junior was of the view that the condition of Noor Jehan also reflects the condition of people of Karachi.
To him, the Karachi Municipal Committee (KMC) seems incapable of taking proper care of the animals. Noor Jehan is just one case.
While answering questions, Z.A Bhutto junior urged students not to lose their hope in the face of challenges if they are working to enhance the status of wildlife, ecology, and environment.
“Keep doing good things, urged Bhutto junior.
